Once you have completed writing your book manuscript and you decide to send it to the publishing house, you should also decide upon getting an ISBN for your book. An International Standard Book Number(ISBN) is a unique book identification number code assigned to individual books, whether available printed or electronically. It is always a smart idea to get ISBN allocated to your book as it gives it an international identity allowing its sale in different bookstores, libraries and distribution channels around the world. There are two ways by which you can get ISBN.
1. Directly from Raja Raja Rammohan National Agency for ISBN free of cost within 20 to 50 days if approved.
Via brinternational.net : If the publishing process is being handled by BR International, then books get their free ISBN without any delay. One thing to be noted here is that we are not the authority in India to provide ISBN. Because we process many books, we request Raja Rammohan National Agency for ISBN in bulk.
Follow one of these steps:
1. Publish your book with a reputable Indian book publisher like BR International or carry out the processing individually.
2. Decide the book size and the number of pages it will have.
3. Finalise the book cover design, both front and back cover design as it is needed while sending the application.
4. Decide the book format(hardcover/paperback or electronic-each of them need a separate ISBN)
5. Fix and finalise the maximum retail price. A book’s typical cost includes printing, binding, storage, marketing, publisher’s commission etc. Try making some profit!
6. Fill out the application.
7. Send a copy of any required id proof(Voter ID, PAN card, passport etc.) printout of the book cover and a self-addressed envelope for a follow-up/return communication.
8. Send your draft application along with the required documents mentioned above to the address provided.
